Biography
Representative Sam Rohrer
128th Legislative District
                                      Pennsylvania House of Representatives
Family values. If there is one central theme to the life and politics of State Representative Sam Rohrer, it would be the importance of family.

A nine-term veteran of the House of Representatives, Representative Rohrer brings the spirit of dedication to his political career, which was instilled in him at childhood. Representative Rohrer’s father, a union member who labored at a local steel mill, exemplified the tireless dedication to family and values that is now integral to Representative Rohrer’s own life and political career.

Like his hard-working parents, Representative Rohrer worked on the family’s rural Ohio farm during his adolescence.  He carried the same diligent spirit to his college education as a management major, where he balanced academics with summer construction jobs to complete his higher education.  The lessons of dedication, hard work, and persistence that had been cultivated in Representative Rohrer’s young adult life were now becoming his trademarks.

After graduation, Representative Rohrer moved to Pennsylvania and involved himself in national and international business, while remaining a loyal family-man to his wife, Ruth Ann, and growing number of children.  He poured his energies into everything from travelling on international business trips to teaching his young sons how to fish to shaping the orchestra of his local church.

Representative Rohrer was first elected to the House of Representatives in 1992 and quickly showed his commitment to true government reform. His appointment to the Speaker’s Commission on Legislative Reform - whose function was to make government more open and transparent - reflects this commitment. During his time in Harrisburg, he has also tirelessly upheld the need for free market reform of the health care system and fiscal discipline in spending.

As the ranking Chairman of the House Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Representative Rohrer works to protect the interests and liberties of the greater agricultural industry as well as small family farms - like the one where he was raised - while at the same time influencing the policies of the Department of Agriculture. He also serves on the House Finance Committee, using his extensive business experience to give sound financial input on bills impacting Pennsylvania’s economy. He has previously served as the ranking Chairman of the Game and Fisheries Committee and has spent twelve years on the House Appropriations Committee. In addition, his sixteen years of service on the Education Committee have earned him the reputation of being a tireless advocate for parents and children. As architect and prime sponsor of the School Property Tax Elimination Act, Representative Rohrer has also earned the statewide title of the champion for the taxpayer.

Representative Rohrer’s political ideology is one of individual responsibility coupled with the belief that the Constitution is the bedrock for making all critical legislative decisions and issues of public policy. To Representative Rohrer, the most urgent needs of this upcoming session are to ensure that the economic situation is addressed in a manner that recognizes fiscal discipline and the Constitutional role of government and to ensure the defense of our freedoms against expansionary and unconstitutional government programs like Real ID.

Representative Rohrer’s consistency in his personal and political life stem from his dedication to God, his love for his wife, six children, two grandsons and one granddaughter, and his tireless service to the constituents of his Berks County district as well as the citizens across the Commonwealth.
